The Last Day (12.5.2011)

  We kept going the presentation about the Web2.0: Bubblesnaps, Animoto, Voki, Current.com, SpellingCity, and Edublogs. Their presentations was nice and informative, so I enjoyed watching those presentations. I think Voki is fun for students to make their own as if they customize their character and give it a voice. Moreover, Voki can speak the various languages. I remembered the short video that young kids had been interviewed how they use Voki as the educational tool. The kids recognized what they wrote down after they played the voice. For example, some students knew that they needed periods or missed a spelling from the sound. It is a great program for the language learners. Similarly, other programs seems to be practical and useful.   

  It was the last day to take the Fall Monday ED2255. I am glad to learn about technology in America. I know that I have lots of spaces for learning the educational skills. As the one part for improving my skills, I learned how to use some programs for students, parents, and teachers and why the programs help for. I believe that the technology is necessary in the classroom after I was taking the class. The importance of the technology cannot be ignored these days. 

ED 2255 (November 28, 2011)

This week's class focused on web2.0 presentations, so seven students went over their presentations: Mixbook, Facebook, Twitter, Digital Photo Story, Engrade, 30 boxes, and wordle. There are lots of technology to help a teacher as an educational tools. However, the web2.0 still has controversial issues to use it. Fox example, students can assess personally a teacher's Facebook as we talked about in the class. How a teacher handles this? If a teacher opens an account for the purpose of her class, it would be fine. In other words, students can assess nothing but the class materials. 

I think that "Digital Photo Story" is helpful for kindergarden kids as projecting pictures every kids to see them in class. As with traditional storytelling, most digital stories focus on a specific topic and contain a particular of view. Both a teacher and students use the frames which are set up on the website. When students create their slide show to tell their story, they can improve their writing skills, show creativity, and have a voice. Likewise, other web 2.0 has lots of benefits when to bring in the classroom.  

ED 2255 (November 21, 2011)

      I am impressed again about technology. Even though I literally know that technology is helpful to live comfortable, and I think that there is no limit to develop technology. I learned about tools for physical disabilities, language learner, and early child. Bridget and I sat in front of a intellikeys keyboard. We talked about the name, how it works, and who is that for as an instructor posted on the board. We who which already used to use a normal keyboard had a difficulty figuring out usage of the intellikeys. Afterwards, all classmates shared the tools what they had and the instructor added some comments. Also, we watched two video documentaries which are showed two physical disabilities used similar technological tools for a child learning and for a woman paying bills and communicating with her husband. I remembered the child said, "The tool is my life." Without the tool, the child cannot learn even if she desires to learn and is smart; whatever she motivates, she is going to be frustrated not to use her hands freely like a normal child. In our future, I believe that all physical disabilities have no barrier to compete with a normal person because of technology.

Today we watched a podcast which students had made when they went to go school trip. This was so memorial including their episodes. The podcasting can deliver recorded lectures, news and information to students as well. Nowadays, the most students are interested in the use of iPods and have spent their entire lives surrounded by and using computers, video-games, digital music players, and all the other toys and tools as digital natives. Therefore, the podcasting encourages students engage in class discussion, field research and independent projects.  

As we in our ed2255 class are education major, we had instruction how to make a podcast. Using the GarageBand program, we learned editing from the samples on the program. I did split up the part and removed an unappropriated interval like a cough. Then, I combined naturally the remained two parts. Afterwards, my group picked a fun topic, Philadelphia Cheesesteaks, and we took roles what to do for or podcasting.

ED 2255 (November 07, 2011)

  Because we did not have class last week, we went over the quiz which was take-home. There was no surprise on the quiz, but it was complicated a little bit for me, and other peers seemed to be easy. Also, we talked about the desktop publishing. While I was creating my start of the year newsletter, I realized what kinds of information students and parents need for the school and for my class. My newsletter was customized for the 12th math class showing the school policy, classroom policy, dress code, materials, and etc. It was interesting to think about classroom policy and to find the useful websites for both students and parents. Throughout today's class, I could organize my ideas by discussing what contains in a newsletter and a brochure to communicate with students and parents.   

ED 2255 (October 24, 2011)

    What I learned from today's lesson is five criteria for evaluating web pages: accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency, coverage. I read the rubric which includes evaluation of Web documents and how to interpret the basics. If I check the five elements step by step, I would know whether I can trust a specific Web page or not. I will consider which web pages are trustful as the educational tools. The useful tip for me is to check the domains such as .edu, .gov, .org, or .net. Usually, those domains keep updated-date and are free to obtain information. After we discussed the given web pages from the instructor, we did class activity in groups. The groups evaluated the sites from the list, so we found the most best and the worst web pages. Each student in our group took a role four or five web pages, and investigated each work individually. Afterwards, we gathered to pick the best one and the worst one. It was hard for me to choose because there were some great ones. Likewise, another classmate was thinking which one was more worse then the other one. Lastly, all groups went out in front on the class and presented what they chose and why they chose the one. It was fun to recognize and analyze various web pages and to share with other groups.        

October.17.2011.

After going over "Desktop Publishing. ppt", the teacher explained the assignment of making a school newspaper. Instead, I made one-page newspaper about me, and all of students went around in the classroom and then we shared about forms, forts, and graphics. I liked looking at the classmates' newspapers. Although I did not read all trough, I enjoyed to look the graphics. 

This Monday web 2.0. presentation starts. The brave three students did well, and I felt they were prepared and knowledgeable about their webs. From them, I also learned about ZOHO, Flicker, and Wikispaces which are useful tools for teachers. Especially, I remembered that ZOHO helps to give students a quick quiz, and the results come out immediately. I really want to try it in my future class.       

October.10.2011.

In the class, we talked about the project of Web2.0, what programs we are going to present for. I just read briefly the programs on the blackboard, and it was amazing to look at a lot of helpful programs for teachers and students. Then, I chose Engrade for teachers to help organize students' grades. Even though I am a little afraid to speak in public, I am interested to learning for the program. 

For the presentation, my teacher gave me tips for creating good slides. I felt to review what to get a better view for slides. We practically made slides in groups about points of students, teachers, and administrators. There are each five standards for students, teachers, and administrators. I could know what they are desire for as well as what slides are good. It seems like for me I am getting technology in details for the school.        

October.3.2011.

In the class, we discuss about two type of assessments in the classroom: formative and summative assessments. Both methods help students to learn, but into different ways. Formative assessment informs how students understand at each point, so adjustments can be made. For example, there are tests and quizzes. On the other hand, summative assessment is tool used to evaluate programs like a years worth of learning. Obviously,  the both way are important to check students' learning steps. I think that the balancing assessment is hard because teachers have to consider all of products carefully as well as student do hard-working to improve student learning.  

I come up with that the standard judgement is controversy, but that's way the various tests exist for each talented students. I believe the one of teacher's roles is to seek to find what students want and need for the jobs in the reality.    

September 26th's Class: to Learn about Spreadsheets

I could think of how I use spreadsheets for students in my future. A spreadsheet software, Excel, is convenient if I know how to utilize it, and it is not complex and helps me to organize professionally students' grades. If I plug numbers in the spreadsheet, I can know the average for each test or each student easily as well as maximum and minimum scores without mistakes. I learned the basic skills for by practicing the basic skills on Monday from the Ed 2255 class. I learned about sorting alphabetizing, absolute value, and weighted average. Also, the graph for weighted average visually helps to see, how well students went through during the session. Furthermore, based on the date, I can analyze data, who are doing well or not, everyone follow up the class, or I need to adjust the tests or assignments. I have learned the basic skills to be a professional teacher by using spreadsheets.

    In the class, we talked about copyright, sharing examples what is fair use or not through Google Doc. I think that it is an important to learn how to use sources. I learn what materials are copyrighted: written works, sounding records, works of art, video, and motion picture works, and architectural works. So, I have to be careful to use the materials. Everyone could share what she or he found from the website, http://www.delicious.com/genlow/copyright. There are various and specific examples, Fair use and Not a Fair use. Also, there are interesting examples, for me "Fair use. Publisher Larry Flynt made disparaging statements about the Reverend Jerry Falwell on one page of Hustler magazine. Rev. Falwell made several hundred thousand copies of the page and distributed them as part of a fund-raising effort"  because the part of copies do not affect the market. Learning about copyright is helpful to keep me from misusing the sources. In my future as an educator, it is necessary to use the correct copyright for students.

Blogging about Monday September 12th's class

What I felt during the watching the video, "A Vision of Students Today" is that the students proclaim reality of the current classroom, their condition, and their feeling without any secrete. The Youtube that I watched fairly reflects characteristics of student's today. I felt in the same way I have to be a multi-tasker nowadays. Honestly, I am prefer to forcing on one task rather than do two or more things at the same time. However, I listen to music and talk with my friends while I am driving. If I do not listen to music, I feel empty like something is missing. 

The other thing I agree is usage of technology, "2300 web pages, 1281  Facebook profiles". It is usual to use technology for me. I always turn on my laptop and frequently check my Facebook and email. In addition, I got my bank-statement through email because it is more convenient and I don't need the paper. 

I am so impressive of a question, "some have suggested that the technology alone can save us.." In my opinion, the importance of how to use technology is going to be emphasized and have to be trained.

Describe the differences between the 21st century classroom and the classrooms of 10 or 20years ago.

As the social works change rapidly for 20 years, the classroom inevitably turns to focus

 on developing more complex knowledge and adapting in 21st century workplaces from

 lecture-centered classrooms. First of all, the school requires students to get higher order

 thinking skills as well as knowledge of technology in the information industry. The idea of

 learning is changed. The teachers had the power to control students in the past years.

 However, students have their opportunity to choose what they want, to pursue their goals, 

and take a responsibility from their decision. As students become self-governing individuals, 

they also can communicate effectively each other; students would share their opinions and 

would discuss on a specific topic. Moreover, the major roles of teachers, classroom 

facilitators, are care of their kids and help them to be interested, to engage what they are 

doing in classes, and to achieve the skills to figure out by themselves. In the technological 

society, it is more important to how to get information and to use it than the material itself, 

which is changed by releasing a new program and the older one is outdated for a few years. It 

is not possible to avoid using the technologies in the 21st century. Students will be able to 

learn handling knowledge through technologies applying in the workplaces. In my opinion, 

the huge difference in 21st century is the era which combines progressive educative 

conditions for students and technologies.
